The Stevenson Book Club is an opportunity for students to read books that they choose. About once a month, students in book club meet to discuss a book that they have voted on. During the meetings, students discuss their reactions to the book. Conversations are light and casual, and they allow students to express what they like, didn’t like, found interesting, etc. about the book and author’s style. It is a great chance for students to meet socially and discuss literature.
This club was founded in 2008. The main goal of this club is for students to learn about different cultures. The club members vote on which ethnic foods they would like to experience and the advisors arrange a field trip to that particular restaurant. The trips are taken after school on Friday afternoons. Ethnic food club members are required to research the different kinds of food and be prepared to order food at the restaurant in an appropriate manner.
The Stevenson hiking club helps students enjoy the recreational opportunities provided by the mountains, rivers, and trails of the tri-state area. Through our fall and spring hiking activities, students are able to explore, appreciate, engage with and discover nature, as well as understand their connection to it. They also learn basic navigation, how to stay safe in the woods, and adopt practices that ensure nature’s conservation.
The goal of our band is to bring our favorite songs as well as our own compositions to the stage. The main instruments include drums, guitar, bass, keyboards, saxophone and vocals. We practice on a weekly basis and perform a number of times throughout the year.
