Coney Island Lighthouse Mission
Under the direction of Athletic Director Nick Alexandrakos, a group of 15 Stevenson students visited Coney Island Lighthouse Mission. Although confronting food insecurity is not easy, students faced this with poise and maturity. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. spoke extensively about poverty, economic inequality, and hunger in the United States. Exactly 60 years ago, during his Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech, he stated "There is no deficit of human resources; the deficit is human will." Stevenson students showed abundant human will and compassion. In under three hours, 15 students created 150 pantry bags, each providing provisions for four people, thus reaching 600 people in need. We are proud of our students for their service!
