In Memoriam: Lucille Rhodes

Sad News and Acknowledging Leadership in Stevenson's History

It is with a heavy heart that I inform everyone of the passing of Lucille Rhodes, a key figure in The Robert Louis Stevenson School's history. Lucille passed away peacefully at her home on Riverside Drive on Thursday, March 18 at the age of 99.

While the history of the Robert Louis Stevenson School can be traced back to 1908, the modern form of Stevenson began when Lucille and her husband, Leo, became involved. They launched Stevenson as a college preparatory school that offered a strong academic program with therapeutic support.

When Leo passed in 1968, Lucille became Director and continued to refine all aspects of the program. Lucille stepped down as Head in 1975, though the family continues to be involved in stewarding the school through the present day.

Lucille cherished the school and all it provides to the adolescents it serves. She is survived by her daughters, Anita and Michelle, and her grandchildren.

Sincerely,

Chris Ongaro
Head of School
