Stevenson Represented at the Council for Exceptional Children Convention
English Teacher Nick McKelvie had a proposal accepted for a presentation at the Council for Exceptional Children Convention. This is the result of Nick's work with Dr. Rebecca Louick at Eastern Michigan University. Stevenson provided an introductory course to PAR (Participatory Action Research) over the summer of 2022 with Louick, and after taking it, Nick worked with her last year to design his own PAR project exploring the use of proficiency-based grading. As part of this research, he has significantly adapted his grading practices in order to emphasize the proficiencies that he teaches and assesses, focusing student grades on the degree to which they master these proficiencies. He has collected data from students in the form of work samples, surveys, and interviews. Professor Louick submitted the proposal and she and Nick will be co-presenting at the CEC conference in March. We are proud to have Nick represent Stevenson among thousands of special education professionals from around the world!
