Stevenson's Storytellers

For Persephone, a Stevenson senior, performance has been an integral part of her high school experience. The latest chapter in Persephone's performance journey occurred in late March when she performed at the All City Storytelling Slam run by The Moth. For 10 weeks, Persephone attended weekly sessions with students from all over New York City.

Persephone's story, about the revelatory nature of a lengthy journey to eat a burrito (and the consumption of said burrito), showcased her delicate craft for storytelling and ability to turn in a nuanced performance. "As soon as I started talking, I realized it was going to be alright," Persephone said in reflection. "And I'm proud of my work."

According to its website: "The Moth is an international organization all about storytelling– TRUE STORIES TOLD LIVE. We have monthly shows in cities all over the country, a radio hour, and a podcast that’s downloaded over 25 million times a year. It’s all about people telling true stories from their lives– onstage, without notes."

Two other Stevenson students, Leni and Naomi, were also been accepted to work with the Moth's All Country Program, and performed at a showcase in May.
